The Earth Rat year is written 戊子 (Wù Zǐ) — Yang Earth set over the Rat, an Earthly Branch of pure Water. It belongs to those born in 1948 and 2008, and it returns next in 2068. As a year pillar it forms one column of a full Ba Zi (八字 bāzì) chart and shows how a person meets the world.
Check the boundary first. The year pillar changes at Li Chun (立春 lìchūn), the solar start of spring around 4 February — not on 1 January and not at lunar New Year. 2026 is 丙午 (Bǐng Wǔ), the Fire Horse, and for the Rat branch this is the year’s headline event.
