The Ten Gods (十神 shíshén) are how a Ba Zi (八字 bāzì) chart turns raw characters into meaning — wealth, authority, support, expression, rivalry. How to read the Ten Gods

Every relationship is decided by two things: which of the five elements the other stem belongs to, and whether its polarity (yin or yang) matches your Day Master’s. The elements sort the ten gods into five pairs, and polarity splits each pair into a “direct” and an “indirect” form.

Companions — same element as you. Friend (比肩 bǐjiān) shares your polarity; Rob Wealth (劫财 jiécái) opposes it. These are peers, siblings, competitors.
Output — the element you produce. Eating God (食神 shíshén) matches polarity; Hurting Officer (伤官 shāngguān) opposes it. This is expression, talent, performance.
Wealth — the element you control. Direct Wealth (正财 zhèngcái) opposes polarity; Indirect Wealth (偏财 piāncái) matches it. This is money, resources, and the classical wife star for a man.
Power — the element that controls you. Direct Officer (正官 zhèngguān) opposes polarity; Seven Killings (七杀 qīshā) matches it. This is authority, discipline, pressure, and the husband star for a woman.
Resource — the element that produces you. Direct Resource (正印 zhèngyìn) opposes polarity; Indirect Resource (偏印 piānyìn) matches it. This is support, learning, and protection.
