What Zi Wei Dou Shu is
Where Ba Zi reads a life through the five elements and the balance of your Day Master, Zi Wei Dou Shu maps it onto a grid of twelve palaces populated by “stars.” The chief of them is 紫微 (zǐwēi), the Emperor or Pole Star, from which the system takes its name. Its reputation is for detail: it reads specific life domains — marriage, wealth, career, health — one palace at a time.
The chart is deterministic. From your lunar birth date and hour, a fixed set of formulas places every star; there is nothing to intuit about where they land. That is the honest part worth stressing. A practitioner does not “sense” your stars — the placements are computed, and the skill is entirely in the reading. Stars, and the four transformations
Into those palaces fall the fourteen major stars (十四主星 shísì zhǔxīng). Some are calm and structural — 天府 (tiānfǔ), the Treasury, stability; 天相 (tiānxiàng), the Minister, support. Others are forceful — 七杀 (qīshā), the General, decisiveness; 破军 (pòjūn), the Vanguard, disruption and renewal. A palace with the Emperor 紫微 in it reads very differently from one holding 巨门 (jùmén), the mouth, which governs doubt and debate. The layer that makes the chart dynamic is the Four Transformations (四化 sìhuà). From your birth-year stem, four stars are “transformed”: 化禄 (huà lù, resource), 化权 (huà quán, authority), 化科 (huà kē, reputation) and 化忌 (huà jì, obstacle). This is where timing lives, and where the Flying Star (飞星派 fēixīng pài) approach traces transformations flying between palaces to read cause and consequence. We rarely read Zi Wei alone. The two systems answer different questions. What to expect, honestly
A reading is one hour, the chart on the table, and a written summary afterwards. We tell you what the palaces lean toward — where the natural grain runs, and where you are working against it. What we do not do is predict fixed events, sell remedies, or trade on fear. A chart maps tendencies; you still make the decisions. If a claim cannot be anchored to a named palace and star, we do not make it.
Zi Wei Dou Shu rewards specific questions. “Should I take the overseas posting” or “is this the year to commit to the property” gives us palaces to read against your timing. Vague questions get vague charts. It also helps to know your birth time precisely — the Life palace and the whole ring shift with the hour, so a chart built on a guessed birth time is a chart built on sand. If your time is uncertain, we will say so and read within that uncertainty rather than around it.
One more honest note for a Singapore audience: neither system is culture-bound to any one community here. Malay, Indian, Peranakan and expatriate clients read the same way a Chinese client does, because the chart is built from a birth moment, not a bloodline.
