Collecting the keys and moving in are rarely the same day. Handover can come weeks before the renovation is finished, and in the traditional view the day that counts is the day the household starts living there: the first night slept under the new roof. The auspicious moving dates 2027 below are for that day, called 入宅 (rùzhái), entering the house.
Key collection or move-in: which date matters
Key collection is an administrative step. The developer or seller sets it, and few households get any say. Contractors may start work soon after. None of that is the move-in.
When people ask a practitioner to pick a moving date, they mean the first day the family takes up residence. Some households mark it with a small ritual of their own; customs vary by family and dialect group, and none of them changes which day the almanac favours.
Method behind the auspicious moving dates 2027
Every day in the Chinese almanac carries one of twelve officers (建除十二神 jiànchú shí’èr shén). The site’s calculator engine, reading each day at 12:00 Singapore time, labels the officer 成 (chéng) “Success” and lists moving in among its favoured uses, next to openings, weddings and signing. Only 成 days are kept here. Our wider guide to auspicious dates explains the full cycle of officers.
Two exclusions come next. A 成 day that forms a Six Clash (六冲 liùchōng) with the year branch is out. Before Li Chun (立春 lìchūn) at 09:45 on 2027-02-04 the year is 丙午 (bǐngwǔ); from that moment it is 丁未 (dīngwèi). The 7th lunar month, 2027-08-02 to 2027-08-31, is also out, since many Singapore households would not move house during it.
Three things were deliberately left undone: no check against anyone’s personal chart, no hour selection, and none of the other almanac layers, such as stars and deity directions, which fall outside what this site calculates. That makes this a shortlist from the almanac layer. The owner’s chart, and the household’s, make the final call.
The 2027 move-in table
Twenty-five days survive the filters. Read the right-hand column first: it names the animal whose year, or whose day branch, that date clashes.

Notice the gap between 27 April and 16 June 2027. The 成 days that fell in that stretch were Ox days, and Ox clashes the Goat year, so all three went. Households hoping to move in May will need to look beyond this officer or wait.
The rows match our wedding date shortlist exactly, because one officer governs both activities. What differs is whose charts you check.
How a household narrows the list
A wedding involves two charts. A move involves everyone who will live in the flat. Write down each member’s birth year animal and compare it with the clash column; a date that clashes any member’s animal usually comes off. Repeat with day branches if you know them. The free calculator gives each person’s Day Pillar in a minute.
When the column cannot clear everyone, practice gives the most weight to the head of household, whose chart is read first. Schools differ on who that is in a multi-generation home: the owner on the title, the main earner, or the eldest. Many families also give an elderly parent’s clash animal priority, even when a date suits everyone else.
To weigh a single day as it approaches, today’s Chinese calendar shows the pillar, officer and clash for the date in question.
Renovation first, move-in second
Renovation and moving in are separate decisions. Hacking, carpentry and painting are work on the space; the move-in is the family taking it up. Practitioners generally suggest finishing heavy work before the 入宅 day rather than living around contractors, so the first day of residence is a settled one.
The layout itself is a feng shui question, not a date question. Flats here come with fixed layouts, small units, shared corridors and limits on renovation; our feng shui guide for Singapore homes works within those. The annual stars also shift which sectors are active in a given year, and the 2027 flying stars page sets them out by direction.
Once the flat is ready and everyone’s birth dates are in hand, a reading can settle the shortlist. We spend one hour with the head of household’s chart and each member’s clash animal on the table, test the candidate dates, and send a written summary afterwards. No fear-selling and no objects to purchase. Book a move-in date reading.
