Chen is transitional Earth, so Earth is nominally prosperous, but it is damp spring earth, soft and wet rather than solid. Its defining feature is that it is the Water reservoir (水库 shuǐkù), the storehouse where Water is kept. It also holds the last of spring’s Wood. That makes the Dragon month unusually cooperative. An Earth Day Master is rooted but the ground is moist, so it is steady without being harsh. A Water Day Master finds a genuine root in the reservoir, so it is stronger here than in any other Earth month. A Wood Day Master still has leftover spring support. What does the Water reservoir mean for my chart?
It means a Water root is buried in the month branch. For Water Day Masters and for charts that need Water, that stored charge can be a quiet asset; whether it opens up is a full-chart question, often involving the 辰↔戌 clash from the Six Clashes (六冲 liùchōng) list, which practitioners read as the storehouse being knocked open. That reading is judged case by case, never assumed.
Is Earth strong or weak in a Dragon month?
Both readings exist honestly. The spring grid marks Earth Dormant, since prosperous Wood controls it, but the transitional-month doctrine (土旺四季) restores Earth’s footing toward the month’s end. In practice we weigh how much Wood presses on the chart and where in the month the birth falls.
