Your Day Master (日主 rìzhǔ) is Gēng 庚 — Yang Metal: the raw blade — decisive, dutiful, built for the cut that others tiptoe around. Gēng carries a soldier’s ethic: hard on itself, loyal to the mission, allergic to waffle. The gift is decisiveness with integrity. The shadow is the unemployed sword — without a worthy problem, the edge turns inward or onto bystanders.

The Gēng temperament
In the five-element mechanics, Gēng is fed by Earth, expresses itself through Water, treats Wood as its wealth, and answers to Fire as pressure and authority. Those four arrows explain most of what this stem loves and avoids: seasons, people and jobs are experienced as more or less of each.
In charts we read Gēng as the stem that improves under punishment — the only one of the ten that classical texts describe as wanting its control element. Ore is useless until smelted; the blade exists because of the forge. In practice that means Gēng people are at their calmest in a crisis and at their most restless in comfort. They respect people who push back, discount praise that costs nothing, and keep score in deeds. The characteristic blind spot is collateral damage: the cut was correct, the timing was correct, and someone is still bleeding — because Gēng forgot that not everything in the room was the problem.
In relationships Gēng is loyal the way a sword is loyal: absolutely, and to one hand. It shows love through protection and problem-solving rather than words, and needs a partner who reads acts of service as the sentences they are.
Strong Gēng, weak Gēng
A strong Gēng needs the forge: pressure, standards, opposition worth meeting — Fire is its friend, which surprises people. Deprived of difficulty it manufactures some. A weak Gēng under the same hammer just cracks; it needs Earth first — backing, structure, time in the sheath.

The Ten Gods for a Gēng Day Master

Gēng through the four seasons
Birth season sets the metal’s temper. The classical grading runs 旺 wàng (Prosperous), 相 xiàng (Supported), 休 xiū (Resting), 囚 qiú (Confined), 死 sǐ (Dormant) — solar-term seasons, not calendar months, with the Earth branches 辰未戌丑 shading toward Earth at each season’s end.

In spring, Metal stands over the Wood it controls — a wealth season fought uphill against the times: effortful, gritty. In summer, Fire controls Metal: the weakest baseline, where support and timing matter more than effort — the forge at its hottest. Autumn is Metal’s own season: maximum native strength, and the chart usually needs outlets, not more support. Wherever cutting is the job: surgery, law enforcement and audit, engineering, restructuring, competitive sport, the honest kinds of management. Wood is the wealth element — Gēng profits by shaping living, growing things: businesses pruned, talent trained, forests managed rather than clear-cut.

The blade always rests on a day branch, and the pair — the day pillar (日柱 rìzhù) — is what we actually read. As a yang stem, Gēng pairs with six branches: Gēng Zǐ 庚子, steel quenched in winter water; Gēng Yín 庚寅, the axe in the forest; Gēng Chén 庚辰, ore in deep spring earth; Gēng Wǔ 庚午, the blade in the forge fire; Gēng Shēn 庚申, metal on its own ground; and Gēng Xū 庚戌, the weapon stored in dry autumn earth. Gēng in 2026 — the Bǐng Wǔ year
2026’s double Fire is the forge at full heat — an authority-and-pressure year. For a strong Gēng this is the best year in the cycle: seek the hardest assignment available and be shaped by it. A weak Gēng should choose its fires carefully — one tempering, not five — and keep Earth (allies, structure) close.
